Don’t worry, I’m still here!

I just busy. And feeling like I’m not sure what to write. And I haven’t a clue where my camera cable is. Time for a bulleted list, anyone?

  • I’m 23 weeks pregnant now. Over halfway, 5 more weeks in my second trimester. Wow. Brad got to feel Love Bug kick this morning. I think that’s one of my favourite pregnancy experiences :)
  • Our kitchen is coming along swimmingly. Cabinets are in, sink and flooring are purchased and the counter-top people are coming on Monday to do the template.
  • I’m getting sick of living in renovation-land. I’m ready to have a working kitchen and dining room and to dig my living room out from underneath the paraphenalia associated with each unfinished area. Sooooo ready.
  • I’ve been reading quite a bit! I finished ‘Kids Are Worth It!’ by Barbara Coloroso and LOVED IT - thanks for the recommendation, Chelsea! I’m almost finished ‘The Continuum Concept’ by Jean Leidhoff and am enjoying it immensely. Lots of interesting information that’s making me think long and hard about Western life.
  • I’m knitting too! I’ve started some Christmas knitting, as well as a pair of socks for Gwen. Too cute.
  • My brother-in-law and his girlfriend are spending a few weeks with us, which I love. I love having people here to share my day with - and Gwen loves having more big people to follow around and imitate!
  • Next weekend I have an all-day LLL conference to attend. Should be interesting with Gwen.
  • I have an appointment with a thrombosis clinic next week to check out my varicose veins - I’m looking forward to finding out what’s going on in there.
  • I’m pretty sure we’re not doing the H1N1 vaccine. 99.8% of me is comfortable not being vaccinated - after all, I don’t ever get the seasonal flu shot … but there is 0.02% of me that’s terrified by all the fear-mongering. If I wasn’t pregnant, I’d be 100% sure I wasn’t getting it.
  • I’m newly addicted to the show Gossip Girl. It’s horrid. But good knitting entertainment!

Ummm …

I really just felt like I needed to write something after that doozy of a post :) Maybe a bulleted list?

  • I am experiencing some EXTREME fatigue … me so tired all day long, but especially after 3 pm
  • Gwen naps now from 11:30 - 1:30-ish … which is AWESOME, but means I cannot nap
  • Enjoyed a lovely two-day holiday with my parents … their place is a veritable amusement park for Gwen! Their 3/4 acre property boasts a pool (which Gwen LOVED), a sandbox (which Gwen LOVED), a dog (you get the picture), and a large expanse of grass for her to explore. We had a blast!
  • Got all of our switch covers and plug covers back on the walls to finish off our new paint. Must. Take. Pictures. My house looks fantastic!
  • The National Post has added a regular column about how green is good for corporations - yay!
  • The Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada has introduced new guidelines surrounding vaginal breech birth - wuhoo!!!
  • I’m heading upstairs to get ready for bed, and that makes me feel totally old - it’s only 9:30!

Quick Update

I hate not having time to blog. It feels like I get super behind and then I don’t know what to even talk about. Yay for a bulleted list!

  • Painting is underway! We found out the night before our painter was to come that half of our trim is lead paint - ARG! So, she had to do two coats of primer - one oil-based and one latex. We’ve also got a massive amount of highly detailed (BEAUTIFUL!) crown molding. Um, she started on Monday and is just this morning starting painting walls. But ya know what? Thyme was the PERFECT colour choice for the living room!
  • Gwen stood on her own for 30 sec - 1 minute yesterday afternoon! And, while we were at the park, she took one step. Not long, people, not long at all!
  • Um, my child is one tomorrow. ‘Nuff said.
  • My child’s birthday party is on Saturday. My house is a veritable disaster. ‘Nuff said.
  • While outside today looking at my gardens with my mom, a lady pulled up and asked if our house was for sale. Um, no.

Randomness: Happy Mother’s Day!

randomness…feed your mind and your blog

week of may 13: Happy Mothers Day!

For Mother’s Day, if you could give your mom anything in the world, what would it be?

till next time…

Hmmmm … this is a tricky one! There’s the “big new house” or “fancy new car” or even, in the case of my mom, “grand opera career”, but I think that if I could give my mom anything in the whole wide world, I would give her a brand new heart. You see, my mom has a heart murmur and it became especially bad when I was born. She does great (you’d hardly know it), but she tires very easily and it really puts a damper on the things that she is able to do. She still does them (my mom is quite the lady … she works, sings in the church choir, sings with the Kitchener-Waterloo Philharmonic Choir [and their Chamber Choir], is learning how to play the piano, and is finishing her Associate’s degree), but I think she could do everything a little bit more easily if she had a new heart to do it with.

The other thing I would do for my mom is exactly what I did for her yesterday:

You see, my mom LOVES to garden, but since she is generally soooo busy with exams and performances is May, she doesn’t always have time to weed her gardens and get them into shape for the planting she will do very soon. So, while Brad and I were outside cleaning this:

(It’s for sale, by the way, if you know anyone who wants a 1988 Trans Am GTA)

I randomly picked up the hoe and weeded her garden. Yes, you read that right, Jenn, I weeded her garden. =) When my mom got home from church, she stopped the car at the driveway, backed up (I swear she was thinking, “Am I at the right house???”) and came into the driveway and was sooooo happy that she cried (that and she was overtired). Here is a pic of my beautiful mom standing next to her now weed-free gardens just before we left for dinner and a movie:

Happy Mother’s Day everyone!

Randomness: Nosy Movie Questions

randomness…feed your mind and your blog

week of May 6: At the Movies

1. Do you like going to the movie threater? How often do you go? What treats do you buy when you go?

Brad and I looooove going to the movies - many of our dates in the first few years we dated revolved around films. We don’t go so much anymore since it’s not really in the budget, but we definitely go whenever we can and whenever there’s a movie we would love to see in theatre. What treats? We’re generally partial to the nachos and cheese, although we both enjoy popcorn as well. We usually buy a pop too.

2. Cell phones in the theater, do you keep yours on or off?

Off. We’re pretty serious about our movies and would hate to have one interrupted.

3. What’s the last movie you went to see in the theater?

Spiderman III - yesterday!

4. Have you ever waited on line for an obscene amount of time (several hours) just to get tickets to a movie? Also, have you ever dressed up as a film character…..i.e. a hobbit, a witch or wizard…while watching a movie?

Ummm … I have probably waited between 1 - 2 hours for movie tickets … we’ve also lined up several hours before a movie starts so we can get the best seats in the house. While I have not dressed up as a film character, I was known in my younger days to dress themed ie. going to see Star Wars Episode One wearing my jeans with Star Wars patches and my Star Wars shirt, etc. =)

5. What do you like most and least about going to the movies?

Most? It’s BIIIIG and the sound is great. There’s just something in going to see a movie at the theatre.

Least? People talking - I want to throw things at them =) Also, the commercials!! I love seeing previews (the ones yesterday were great! Pirates of the Carribean 3, Shrek 3, The Bourne Ultimatum, ummmm … the one about the surfing penguins …), but I truly hate seeing car commercials and stuff. We don’t have television for a reason =)

6. What’s the worst movie you’ve ever seen? Why?

Hmmm … at the movies? Dude Where’s My Car … momentary lapse of judgement at age 16, what a waste of money! On video? That horrible movie with that washed-up actor about a cave and the thing in it … I think it had Tara Reid in it? It’s so bad I can’t even remember what it’s called. Oh. And also The Secret. And also Sin City - which we turned off after 10 minutes or so.

till next time…

Randomness: 3 Wishes

I found this meme on Jessica’s blog in her last Thursday Thirteen and thought I’d join it. A topic per week, so I’ll at least have one blog post covered =)

randomness…feed your mind and your blog

Week of April 15: 3 Wishes
If you had 3 wishes granted what would you wish for?

till next time…

Three wishes, huh?

1) That all the children in the world be safe, healthy, and loved (including the unborn)

2) That everyone in the world would come to know Jesus as Lord and Saviour

3) Ummm … I can’t think of a third wish! That Brad and my dream of having a home that is open to serving the most vulnerable children would come true and that could run something similar to Generations of Hope? That’s truly my life’s goal and it would be much easier if it could just be granted as a wish rather than having to work for it =)
