Community Gardening

This summer, we’ve done a lot of planning for ways to grow our own fruits and veggies and taken many steps toward becoming much more self-sustaining. Our housemates have a large vegetable garden in the back and although they have offered for us to partake of the veggies/fruits grown therein, I didn’t feel up to doing that much gardening just yet … I don’t really know much about it and when the planning was happening, I didn’t feel up to helping even with that, since it was at a rough Gwen-time.

Twelfth Night

On January 5, the Kirkendall Cluster - as we affectionately call ourselves - had our first commitment ceremony. After a lovely meal, we shared a liturgy and committed ourselves to the community and to one another with vows (and the lighting of candles!). Read the rest of this entry »

“Waddles can’t walk that fast!”

… said I to my husband last night as we went for a walk. “Slow down!”

(Yes. I call myself ‘waddles’. ‘Preggo’ and ‘preggers’ are also often used. Most often when talking about food, for example, “Preggers wants cake!” or “Preggo wants a hamburger!” I’m classy.) Read the rest of this entry »

Home Reno Time!!!

** Warning: Photo heavy post **

Well, my dad came up today to finish up the sanding on June Bug’s room, so other than priming that wall (which should take no time at all and I might do tomorrow), it’s done!! Here’s our photo journey of the past week of renovations. Read the rest of this entry »

How cool is this?

A local reporter contacted Crystle and asked if she could come and interview us. We set up a potluck last month and she came and we had a blast eating together and chatting about what we’re doing as a community of believers and why.

Turns out she has submitted a synopsis of the story to our local newspaper and they are VERY interested in covering the story! So, in all likelihood, we’re going to be in the paper! So. Cool. =)

Oh!!! And I thought I should update on this, as well. Our community numbers have been expanding! Jan, a 25-year missionary veteran who has been back in Canada only two years, co-worker of Crystle, Crystle’s ride to work, and member of our church, has been joining us for morning prayer (we meet together Wednesday mornings to pray) and coming to our potlucks for some time now. She has been looking and praying for a house, and whaddya know? That’s right, people. She recently (last week!) bought the house on the OTHER side of Graham and Emma? Two houses beside one another for intentional community? You could argue coincidence. Three houses in a row? There’s no mistaking that for anything but God moving. It’s amazing. And encouraging. And exhilarating! She’ll hopefully be moving in sometime in late July or August. Welcome to the neighbourhood, Jan!

24 Weeks! Six Months!

Holy cannoli (sp? anyone?), where is the time going??? I’m six 28-day months, and 3.75 real months away from my due date! Wow.

So apparently, we’ve moved away from comparing my anatomy to foods, and am comparing my anatomy to sports objects. My uterus is now the size of a soccer ball. A soccer ball, people! That’s big! No wonder my belly’s growing! Our little one weighs 1 1/4 lbs, and is just short of a foot long, head-to-toe. June Bug’s taste buds are developing now, and soon will be able to distinguish between sweet and salty/sour. Apparently, babies also begin to react to outside sounds around this time - I’ll let you know if June Bug jumps with loud noises soon!! If I were to have June Bug right now, there would be a 20 - 25% chance of survival … his/her lungs just aren’t quite mature enough, although they’re rapidly developing!

I guess I should update?

Maybe about something non-baby related?

So, we’ve been in our new house for about a week and a half. The move went VERY well - we had so much help we could hardly believe it!! We are truly blessed to have all the friends we did come and help us out. Read the rest of this entry »

Hmmm ….

Well, the electrical work on the house is … interesting. Because all of our walls are still intact, it makes it a much harder job for the electrician to do his job! Needless to say, there are holes in my house where there were not holes before that will need to be repaired. Sigh.

Thankfully, my dad is able to come up tomorrow to assist the electrician (thanks, daddy!) which means they should be able to get quite a bit done, since my dad has quite a bit of experience with it all. I’m going to be going with them to help out, so I’ll be taking pictures. Of the holes.

We knew it was necessary to redo the wiring, but it’s still hard seeing it done! The electrician is hoping that he can have everything done by Friday evening in time for moving day. I’m trying not to think of the alternative!

(p.s. I’ve got my ultrasound tomorrow! I’ll be 18 weeks + 6 days, so almost 19 weeks right on. Excited!!!)

House Pics Part the Second

Ta-daaaa! I didn’t think I’d get around to putting up this post, as it’s currently almost 10:00 pm, I worked a 12 hour clinical day (on my feet the whole. day.), and it’s past my bedtime =( However, Brad’s at the house doing wiring (just called! on his way home!) so I figured I’d get these pics online! As a preface, this side of the house was used as a rental property so the decor … leaves a lot to be desired!

Pics of House …

… from inside the house! Posted with stolen internet signal! Muwahahahaha!

Now, the house is really, really big. So I’m posting pics of the house in two sessions - one, today, for the front half of the house, and another, sometime tomorrow hopefully, of the back half of the house. So, without further ado, the house! Read the rest of this entry »
