**Edited to add a link to the TIPS Open Mouth Cups Awards that I checked out during my research. Also, take a look at the comment from midwife and TIPS founder, Sharon!**
A couple of weeks ago I was listening to a Midirs podcast about cup feeding and they were recommending the use of Bickiepegs’ The Doidy Cup for early supplementation, introduction of a cup, and weaning baby to a cup from a bottle. They were cautioning against the use of spouted cups, citing research that may indicate that the use (and prolonged use) of such cups may lead to poor nutritional habits. They encouraged the use of an open cup for drinking at mealtimes.
After doing a bit of poking around at the different open-mouthed cup options, I thought I’d give The Doidy Cup a try. I ordered from the online store (located in the UK) on May 20th, and the cups arrived in the mail today (only 8 days!). I was eager to try them out and see what Gwen would think of them, so I brought it out at dinner. Read the rest of this entry »
Well, I took the plunge shortly after my birthday, March 7, and I updated a few weeks later.
I think it’s high time I updated again!
It’s now been 2.5 months since I’ve used shampoo on my hair. Wow. When I say it like that it seems pretty incredible, eh? Read the rest of this entry »
I ran into the student midwife, K, who caught Gwen this morning. Turns out she’s going to be working at the clinic where I go for midwifery care. Yay!!
I was just telling Brad that with the next baby, I’d like to have her, if possible, since our other midwives are established in their careers and have lots of repeat clients, whereas when you’re just starting out in practice, you don’t have many repeats at first and it would be nice for her, I think.
I guess only time will tell!
(And no, not an announcement. Stop it, people. We’re not even close to thinking about that yet!)
Before I got pregnant, I was around 140 - 145lbs and wore at least a size 10, often a size 12. I was shocked to find myself back in my pre-pregnancy pants at about 4 or 6 weeks postpartum - yep, apparently I’m ‘that girl’.
When Gwen was between 4 and 6 months, I realized that my pants were falling off me and looking awfully sloppy, so I bought some new size 8’s. I have *never* worn a single-digit size before in my whole life. I was thrilled!
Lately, my size 8’s have been feeling a bit big … and by a bit, I mean that I can pull them down without undoing the button. So I headed to the mall today and brought home a pair of size 6 jeans.
Go, breastfeeding, go!
Wow. It’s been a while since I took the plunge, and I have yet to update you!
So here we are. I think it’s been three weeks. (Seriously? Where does the time go?) My hair looks GREAT after I wash it - bouncy, shiny, healthy, and it’s actually got some volume. I’m currently doing 1 tbsp baking soda in some water, pouring it over my hair, scrubbing, and rinsing and then doing a 1 tbsp: 1 cup water apple cider vinegar rinse, just a little bit at a time, since my hair isn’t too long. My hair feels so clean!
I’m trying to be a big girl and not wash every day. I’ve been washing every day for years and years and years because I’ve got fine, thin hair … and let’s get serious - it gets greasy the day I don’t wash it. I’m hoping, though, that if I stick with washing every other day, eventually my scalp will figure out how much oil it needs to make. It’s actually looking better the day after the wash than it ever did when I was using shampoo, so I think we’re getting somewhere … it’s just not as quick as I’d like! If I have to go somewhere and it’s looking particularly bad, I rub some cornstarch into the roots and massage it into the roots and comb it through.
One thing I never thought about - a great way to conserve water is to not shower every day!
