I had to get these things into the blog for record purposes, but I’ve been busy and haven’t been able to.
On April 4, Gwen’s top right front tooth popped through the gums! Surprisingly, that tooth came with very little sleep disturbance. The one beside it though? It’s really close to coming through now and is giving her lots of troubles. She’s still sleeping better than she was a month ago though!!

On Friday night at our weekly potluck, Gwen ate spaghetti! You have no idea how amazing that is, since Gwen hasn’t really even eaten whatever we eat for dinner. She loved picking up pieces of spaghetti and enjoyed quite a few bites off my fork with sauce and meat on it. Yay, Gwen!!
Yesterday, she ate wild blueberries (loved them!! What a fun, messy finger food!) and some grapes. I love having more fruits that I can give her, especially due to her low veggie consumption … I’m hoping to rectify that by buying some frozen peas … I think she might eat those. She’s been eating more and more at mealtimes … now we just have to get a good mix of food in those meals instead of the exact same things every day ro every meal

Oh my goodness. Her eyes. Sigh.
Today, I think Gwen made her first attempt at saying “Hi”. We always say Hi/Bye (depending on which is more appropriate) when she waves and today when we were saying Hi to daddy, she actually made a noise that sounded like the cutest “H-iiiiii”. A couple minutes later, when we were saying Bye to daddy, she kinda made a “buh” sound. I’m wondering if this is the beginning of first words! Such a cute little voice. Oh. And those giggles we’ve been waiting so long for? Very worth the wait
I’m trying to get a video with her giggling on it.
Alright, I’m off to Goodness Me! to pick up the avocados I forget to get yesterday … it wouldn’t be such a big deal if I didn’t have them, ya know, if Gwen ate a different veggie, but I don’t like to skip the avocados because it’s the only one she gets!

So on March 12, we went for Gwen’s 9 month check-up. Everything was 100% fine until I asked to know what percentile Gwen was in, since my doctor’s office has never told me. I shouldn’t have asked. According to their records and Gwen’s current weight, she had all but dropped off the growth curve. My doctor, who previously - even Gwen’s weight had been taken - was not concerned about Gwen’s growth or development started telling me the most irrational things … Read the rest of this entry »

I made cookies yesterday.

They are chocolate chip cookies from my new cookbook, Deceptivey Delicious. They. Are. So. Good. If I didn’t tell you, you’d never know there were chick peas in there for added nutrition, and I even substitued one cup of spelt flour to make them even better! Honestly, these cookies are great and I’ll be making them again and again!

Saturday was my 25th birthday. We didn’t do a whole lot, but it was a great day nonetheless! Brad got up (at 6:20!) with Gwen and let me sleep until she needed to nurse - which was around 8. Ah, bliss! We got our favourite Saturday morning breakfast - a breakfast sandwich from the Locke Street Bakery. Mmmmm. Read the rest of this entry »

I don’t know why I’m always so surprised that I can cook and/or bake. I can read, which seems to be about the only thing required to follow a recipe (I have tried to tell Brad this, but I don’t think he’s buying it!).

These cookies are called Applesauce Oatie Cookies. People, this is the first time in my life I have made cookies from scratch all by myself. And, shockingly, it wasn’t terribly hard! In fact, it was quite similar to opening a package and making them from there, except that I had to round up the dried ingredients myself. Although they taste YUMMY(!), I’m not sure I’ll make them again. They’re REALLY soft - I hear that’s probably because of the applesauce in the recipe - and once you put them in a container, it’s kinda hard to get them apart again.

This was dinner earlier this week - Pureed Baby Food Soup with a delcious salad with homemade Apple Vinaigrette dressing and cornbread muffins. The soup was made on the advice of my friend, Sarah, who suggested I use the pureed baby foods I’ve been saving for Gwen in a soup. Although I’m pretty sure she more meant throw in a cube or two with your next batch of soup, I took it to a whole new level and used pretty much all of the cubes and threw them in the crockpot with some basil, vegetable stock, garlic, onion, and other spices. It was surprisingly yummy
The cornbread muffins came from Crystle’s cook book, so I don’t have the recipe for those.
Tada!

Brad and I are trying to get into somewhat of a routine these days. The plan is to be waking up at 7am every day, since he’s trying to get to work for 8:30am so he can leave at 5pm instead of 6pm. So far this week, we’ve done pretty well!
Gwen had a HORRIBLE night on Monday night - she was awake 4 times between 7:30 and 10:30, woke at 11:30 to eat and was awake, on average, every 45 minutes all. night. long.
To say it was difficult is an understatement.
So, Brad and I devised a plan to handle bedtime and nightwaking that we’re comfortable with and tonight is night #2 on “the plan”. Last night was fabulous. She was asleep by 8:30pm and ate at 11pm and 2am and woke up around 7:30am. AHHHH, sheer bliss after our couple of bad nights.
Enough about that! Read the rest of this entry »

A local reporter contacted Crystle and asked if she could come and interview us. We set up a potluck last month and she came and we had a blast eating together and chatting about what we’re doing as a community of believers and why.
Turns out she has submitted a synopsis of the story to our local newspaper and they are VERY interested in covering the story! So, in all likelihood, we’re going to be in the paper! So. Cool. =)
Oh!!! And I thought I should update on this, as well. Our community numbers have been expanding! Jan, a 25-year missionary veteran who has been back in Canada only two years, co-worker of Crystle, Crystle’s ride to work, and member of our church, has been joining us for morning prayer (we meet together Wednesday mornings to pray) and coming to our potlucks for some time now. She has been looking and praying for a house, and whaddya know? That’s right, people. She recently (last week!) bought the house on the OTHER side of Graham and Emma? Two houses beside one another for intentional community? You could argue coincidence. Three houses in a row? There’s no mistaking that for anything but God moving. It’s amazing. And encouraging. And exhilarating! She’ll hopefully be moving in sometime in late July or August. Welcome to the neighbourhood, Jan!

My parents were lovely enough to invite Brad and I home for Easter dinner - it was wonderful!!! My mom made turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and cauliflower and broccoli with cheese sauce … and, of course gravy. Mmmm … it was sooooo yummy!! I realized, though, that stuffing is the nastiest thing ever - soggy lard bread with some onion and celery stuffed up a turkey’s butt. How is it soooo delicious? Read the rest of this entry »

It’s been a while since I’ve done a review of anything, so I figured I’d give ‘er! Last night when we were out for dinner, my parents gave me a bread knife to complete my set of Henckels knives.
These are no ordinary knives, people. These are KNIVES. Having grown up only with Henckels knives, I really had no idea they were all that special - until I went to school and had to buy my own and bought whatever set I could afford. Read the rest of this entry »

Well, I haven’t updated in a long, long time because I have been super busy. This past week looked like this for me:
- Monday - 12 hour clinical
- Tuesday - school in afternoon, homework at night
- Wednesday - 8 hour day at work
- Thursday - 12 hour clinical
- Friday -12 hour clinical
- Saturday - 12 hour clinical
Yeah. That’s how fun it was. This week I have three 12 hour clinical shifts, the next week I have NONE, the week after I have one and the week of April 1 I have two. And then I’m FINISHED! Read the rest of this entry »
