New resolve.

I’ve been really bad lately at reading my Bible. At talking to God.

Really bad.

I can’t seem to remember to do it, although when I do I feel ten times better and have a hundred times more patience for everything in my life.

So I have resolved to keep up with this reading schedule. I don’t even have to remember where I am or remember to go sit down with my Bible. I just have to click on the link, change the translation to NIV, and read. Because right now, I just need to read and not feel guilty about forgetting.

And finally … the birth story!

Alright, this is a long, detailed version of my birth story. If you have a problem with blood or bodily functions, or body parts, you might not want to read this! Read the rest of this entry »

“Waddles can’t walk that fast!”

… said I to my husband last night as we went for a walk. “Slow down!”

(Yes. I call myself ‘waddles’. ‘Preggo’ and ‘preggers’ are also often used. Most often when talking about food, for example, “Preggers wants cake!” or “Preggo wants a hamburger!” I’m classy.) Read the rest of this entry »

How cool is this?

A local reporter contacted Crystle and asked if she could come and interview us. We set up a potluck last month and she came and we had a blast eating together and chatting about what we’re doing as a community of believers and why.

Turns out she has submitted a synopsis of the story to our local newspaper and they are VERY interested in covering the story! So, in all likelihood, we’re going to be in the paper! So. Cool. =)

Oh!!! And I thought I should update on this, as well. Our community numbers have been expanding! Jan, a 25-year missionary veteran who has been back in Canada only two years, co-worker of Crystle, Crystle’s ride to work, and member of our church, has been joining us for morning prayer (we meet together Wednesday mornings to pray) and coming to our potlucks for some time now. She has been looking and praying for a house, and whaddya know? That’s right, people. She recently (last week!) bought the house on the OTHER side of Graham and Emma? Two houses beside one another for intentional community? You could argue coincidence. Three houses in a row? There’s no mistaking that for anything but God moving. It’s amazing. And encouraging. And exhilarating! She’ll hopefully be moving in sometime in late July or August. Welcome to the neighbourhood, Jan!

Raising the next generations of Christians

Crystle and I were talking the other night about how one goes about training up children in the faith. We were talking about how there’s two schools of thought on the subject:

  1. “Age-appropriate” children’s messages based on Biblical truths, like devotional books.
  2. The Bible is plenty age-appropriate and doesn’t need anything to “translate” it for kids - you just need to talk about the Scriptures as you read.

There may be other methods, or a combination of the two, but these were the two we were discussing. Read the rest of this entry »

I guess I should update?

Maybe about something non-baby related?

So, we’ve been in our new house for about a week and a half. The move went VERY well - we had so much help we could hardly believe it!! We are truly blessed to have all the friends we did come and help us out. Read the rest of this entry »

House Pics Part the Second

Ta-daaaa! I didn’t think I’d get around to putting up this post, as it’s currently almost 10:00 pm, I worked a 12 hour clinical day (on my feet the whole. day.), and it’s past my bedtime =( However, Brad’s at the house doing wiring (just called! on his way home!) so I figured I’d get these pics online! As a preface, this side of the house was used as a rental property so the decor … leaves a lot to be desired!

new house!

The House!

Voila! Our new home! We got the keys yesterday at about 4:30 pm and had to wait for Brad to finish work and Crystle to get home before we could go over. We got there around 5:30, which is not the most wonderful time to take pictures - especially when one cannot find the lights in the house - or, at some points, the light switches were found, but there were no bulbs in the lights. That makes for one dark house!

The story of our new house

Well, it’s been a long time in the coming, I just hadn’t quite come up with the perfect time to tell the story of how we came to own a house. However, Christine over at welcome to my brain posted about a book that led us to consider SERIOUSLY living life in common. Check out her post (linked above) to give your brain a refresher.

So, I’ll backtrack.
