She’s growing up so fast!

I know it’s totally cliche, but it’s true. Mere weeks after the birthday letter I wrote, Gwen has changed so much!

  • She is completely potty trained (!!)  and is almost toilet independent - only needs help with wiping and pulling up underwear/shorts/pants. She only wears a cloth diaper to bed, mostly because she spends part of the night with us and we don’t want to be covered in pee. However, she wakes up dry about 90% of the time these days - generally waking us in the night to pee if needed.
  • Her sentences and vocabulary are growing by leaps and bounds! She has started saying “pease” and “pank you” with regularity and has picked up on my “oh geez!” when something’s happened :) A couple of days ago she said, “Oopsies! Train fall down - I crash it!”
  • Naptime has become a 5 minute affair - after lunch around 12:30 or 1 PM, we go upstairs, go pee, get changed (if needed), turn on the fan, hop into bed with boy, have a kiss and hug, and then I leave the room and she falls asleep by herself. It’s both amazing and sad all at the same time.
  • She can jump! With both feet off the ground at once! So fun!
  • She is starting to understand the concept of numbers and counting - when I begin counting and pointing at something, she picks it up and continues, “two … three … nine.” Four and five are currently a mystery :)

I’m telling you. He’s big. Probably already 15 lbs, although I’m not entirely sure. And also, who is the cute baby in that second picture and where did she go? Read the rest of this entry »

Oh pictures, where art thou?

MISSING:

Infant. Named Gwen. All I have is this toddler …

And I’m not sure where she came from …

I know, I know. It’s been a LOOOOOONG time since I’ve gotten to update you all on Gwen via pictures. Since the beginning of July, actually! I totally lost my camera cord and couldn’t even find the memory card/USB reader we bought a couple of years ago so I could NOT get my pictures off my camera! But, thankfully, I found both the card reader AND the camera cord and now we’re up and running again. I figured I’d shoot some pics up here and show you how much she’s grown in the past month! She Talks!

We have gone from a one-word vocabulary (mama) to a four-word vocabulary in two days. While I was at my parents, Gwen learned to say berries (bays), ball (bah), and eyes (ice).

So. Cute. Can’t. Take. It.

I am amazed

At how quickly babies pick up their new skills! Yesterday, Gwen walked about 15 - 20 steps straight on 2 or 3 separate occasions, and even turned corners! She is bravely trying out her new skill everywhere … I think my favourite part is how she holds her hands out straight in front of her :)

Giggling Gwen

We waited a loooooong time to hear Gwen giggle (I think she started doing it around 10 or 11 months?) but oh. my. goodness. Was it ever worth the wait!

I’m walking on sunshine … wah-oh!

Er, I suppose Gwen is …

This morning during morning prayer, Gwen dropped a ball and walked across our living room to pick it up. 5 or 6 steps!

All day she was crouching and standing and crouching and standing and walking 4-6 steps off everything! It’s incredible that she literally went from taking 1-2 steps and falling immediately to walking 2 or 3 and then stopping to look at something and then taking a few more. I don’t think it’ll be long until it’s her preferred method of locomotion.

Goodness gracious, things are going to get BUSY!

Ring, ring, ring - remotephone!

I read about kids starting to use items for their intended use around Gwen’s age and thought “Aw, how cute!”

Awwww, how cute!

Um yeah. Ridiculously cute! This is Gwen yesterday using the TV remote as a phone. We gave her the real cordless phone and she threw it on the ground. Apparently she doesn’t think it’s a real phone like the remote is!

Gwen started grabbing the comb out of my hand and rubbing it on her own head a couple of weeks ago and I realized just how crazy important that milestone really is. My kid now understands that a comb is for brushing hair! Wow! That’s a pretty big leap from the ‘what’s that spiky black thing and why are you rubbing it on my head?’ look she’s been giving me since birth …

The cutest yet? This morning while I was brushing my teeth, Gwen was holding her foot in one hand and a shoe in the other, trying to get her foot in the shoe.

(Is it bad that the thought after ‘Heehee - she’s trying to put her shoe on!’ was ‘oh crap, now she’s going to want to do it herself and the TANTRUMS, OH THE TANTRUMS!’)
