Gil is 10 months!

Um, I’m an abysmally pathetic mommy blogger. I’m not sure when last I updated about my baby boy, but he was 10 months old just a few days ago, so here we go!

He crawls!

He stands!

He now cruises, but it’s hard to get an action shot of that :)

In all seriousness, Gil has taken off in his physical abilities. Because he learned to sit *after* he learned to crawl, we’ve not enjoyed any luxurious ‘sit in one place while playing with a new toy’ phase – this little boy is all GO all the time. Read the rest of this entry »

Gwen Videos!

Both of these videos were taken on Tuesday night. I have a million and a half that I need to upload, but these are killer cute and they’re actually current, so I thought I’d upload them first :)

Gwen Update!

I had to get these things into the blog for record purposes, but I’ve been busy and haven’t been able to.

On April 4, Gwen’s top right front tooth popped through the gums! Surprisingly, that tooth came with very little sleep disturbance. The one beside it though? It’s really close to coming through now and is giving her lots of troubles. She’s still sleeping better than she was a month ago though!!

On Friday night at our weekly potluck, Gwen ate spaghetti! You have no idea how amazing that is, since Gwen hasn’t really even eaten whatever we eat for dinner. She loved picking up pieces of spaghetti and enjoyed quite a few bites off my fork with sauce and meat on it. Yay, Gwen!!

Yesterday, she ate wild blueberries (loved them!! What a fun, messy finger food!) and some grapes. I love having more fruits that I can give her, especially due to her low veggie consumption … I’m hoping to rectify that by buying some frozen peas … I think she might eat those. She’s been eating more and more at mealtimes … now we just have to get a good mix of food in those meals instead of the exact same things every day ro every meal :)

Oh my goodness. Her eyes. Sigh.

Today, I think Gwen made her first attempt at saying “Hi”. We always say Hi/Bye (depending on which is more appropriate) when she waves and today when we were saying Hi to daddy, she actually made a noise that sounded like the cutest “H-iiiiii”. A couple minutes later, when we were saying Bye to daddy, she kinda made a “buh” sound. I’m wondering if this is the beginning of first words! Such a cute little voice. Oh. And those giggles we’ve been waiting so long for? Very worth the wait :) I’m trying to get a video with her giggling on it.

Alright, I’m off to Goodness Me! to pick up the avocados I forget to get yesterday … it wouldn’t be such a big deal if I didn’t have them, ya know, if Gwen ate a different veggie, but I don’t like to skip the avocados because it’s the only one she gets!

New Family Doc!

So on March 12, we went for Gwen’s 9 month check-up. Everything was 100% fine until I asked to know what percentile Gwen was in, since my doctor’s office has never told me. I shouldn’t have asked. According to their records and Gwen’s current weight, she had all but dropped off the growth curve. My doctor, who previously – even Gwen’s weight had been taken – was not concerned about Gwen’s growth or development started telling me the most irrational things … Read the rest of this entry »

Well, I’ve decided that Gwen likes finger foods and is not terribly interested in purees! It was a struggle to get her to eat baby cereal and I could not get her to eat a vegetable to save my life and it was frustrating me and that’s NOT what solids should be like! I shouldn’t get frustrated and uptight and stressed out trying to get my kid to eat when she’s OBVIOUSLY interested in food (as evidenced by grabbing whatever I’m eating and shoving it in her mouth).

So, I’ve given up purees and I’m giving her finger foods and/or bites from my food and she LOVES it!!! In the past couple of days, she’s had toast, egg yolk, pita, a piece of muffin that she pulled off and ate before I could stop her (LOL – she’s FAST!), and BROCOLLI! My kid ate a vegetable! And enjoyed it!

I’m still spoon-feeding her some things (yogurt, pear sauce, prunes, avacado) but that’s about it. If it’s not supposed to be mushy and eaten with a spoon, she’s not getting it pureed! :) I’m so much less stressed out now.

Everyone together – “Kim, trust your baby!”

Why doesn’t our culture encourage us to trust our babies? Why?

I have totally been slacking at taking the pictures off my camera and updating le blog and le Facebook with pictures of my beautiful little girl. Maybe it’s because every moment she’s awake I’m ripping my laptop cord out of her mouth if I dare to open it up regardless of HOW FAR AWAY FROM IT I put her, or maybe it’s that I’ve been really tired lately and I just haven’t wanted to take the effort.

Either option is sad. Read the rest of this entry »

My Baby Continues to Grow …

So, because when I do Gwen’s scrapbook I look back on my blog to find out when she did certain things, I thought I should update. Plus, I obviously like updating everyone on her development!

Wednesday, January 28

Gwen was being cheered on at the library because she was soooooo close to crawling! A few times since then she’s done a few crawls before collapsing and dragging herself the rest of the way. Not long now! Oh, and crazily enough, she pulled herself up on a toy at the library as well. I sat her in front of it to grab the diaper bag and looked back and she was standing beside it. We had to lower the crib mattress. Gwen’s first tooth is also through (her lower middle right one), although she’s still showing signs of continued teething, so I know more are coming!

Thursday, January 29

I have been giving Gwen some cereal to play with at dinner time to keep her busy until we’re done eating our dinner and I feed her (Avacado. If you’re wondering, that’s what she eats for dinner. She can chuck back 1/2 an avacado at one sitting, so I know she’s got an appetite, she just refuses most foods!). She has been grabbing one in her hand (getting really close to the pincer grip!), moving her hand to her mouth, and then mimicking chewing motions. Too cute. Especially because there’s nothing in her mouth.

Friday, January 30

This morning, Gwen fed herself three Breakfast O’s. That’s the first time she’s successfully maneuvered them into her mouth and ingested them. The first one caused a bit of coughing and a little gag. The second and third went much better. Does this mean we start finger foods? After breakfast, as I was sorting through some of her old clothes, she sat up. From laying down. This opens a whole bunch of possibilities for Mistress Mouse as now she can get to something and sit up to play with it.

Somebody stop this crazy ride, please! She’s growing too fast!

She is just all kinds of cute.

She is just all kinds of cute.

Lions and Tigers and Pears, Oh My!

Hey Mom!

We’ve been putting Gwen in the high chair at dinner time for a few days to get her used to sitting with us for meals. I put her in today for lunch and she had a great time! (See the drool on that bib? We went through 3 bibs today. So. Much. Drool. And I’m pretty sure I feel a tooth coming in!)

We signed up for a CSA for this winter through Plan B Organic Farms. We got our first delivery last Tuesday and it is wonderful to be getting fresh, organic veggies dropped off at our house again. Included in the drop-off was some pears, which we didn’t get to. They were getting quite soft (I’m a firm-fruit person … mushy fruit is not my thing!) so I decided to cook them up and make some baby food! I boiled them in a touch of water and then put them through my KidCo Food Mill (thanks, Jen!). I dropped teaspoonfuls (?? is that a word?? or is it teaspoonsful?) onto parchment paper on a cookie sheet and popped it in the freezer. A few hours later, I popped the pucks in a labeled bag.
