My son is huge!
Exhibit A:
Exhibit B:
I’m telling you. He’s big. Probably already 15 lbs, although I’m not entirely sure. And also, who is the cute baby in that second picture and where did she go?
Oh right. She has (somedays slowly and somedays instantly!) transformed into a little girl. I have a hard time remembering what she looked like as a baby and the types of things she did. Thank goodness for pictures and videos!
Overall, life seems to be settling into more of a routine - ya know, except for this past week with the whole family battling a cold and Gwen getting the worst of it with strep and two ear infections! - and I’m becoming more confident and competent as a mother of two. All in all, I feel like I’m doing a decent job. It’s certainly not easy, but is becoming more natural.
Gwen still thinks Gil is awesome - “Hi, Baby!” “Hi, Geeo” “Baby ma-jul!” (smile) and “Geeo woah-wing obah!” (rolling over) are often-heard phrases in our house. Indeed, Gil is rolling over - back to tummy … every. time. you. set. him. down. and is smiling up a storm - although I still haven’t caught it on camera. As soon as I put it in front of him, he adopts the face above. Sigh.
Gil generally sleeps very well - apart from the odd night here or there. He still falls asleep sometime around 8:30 or 9pm and sleeps through until between 2am and 5:30am. Sadly, if he’s up at 5:30, it normally means he’s up for the day! For the most part, though I grumble as I get my butt out of bed, I don’t mind being up early - gives me plenty of time to get a head start on my day, including making two green smoothies. His fussiness all but disappeared as we approached the 3 month mark and are, for the most part, a memory behind us. We’ve all got our days, and he is no exception! He loves being worn and spends naptimes, walks, and when-I’ve-got-tasks-to-do times in the mei tai - either sleeping or intently watching the world. He’s really a beautiful baby and a happy boy - content to be put down for a few minutes here and there for me to get something done.
Gwen will be two in a week. TWO! I was reading back through June’s posts of last year and was remembering how hard it was to find out that we were expecting another baby so soon and how I felt like I’d betrayed Gwen. I’m still battling those feelings, though my love for my boy and my gladness that he is with us outstrip the betrayal now. It’s a hard balance, these two children of mine, but it’s getting better.
One day at a time.

Kim, I’m so glad those feelings have outstripped the betrayal. I haven’t had bad thoughts about adding this one in for several weeks. Just realized that when read your post.
I’ve been so sure she’s going to be a great big sister and a help that those feelings have covered any lingering doubts for me.
But it will be a hard balance. I do find myself thinking/hoping that I will still have my snuggle time with Isabel. Usually when I’m snuggling her
And hoping that we all four fit in our bed because she’s still in it a lot of the time and Jeremy is getting to be a pro at sleeping around her body and moving her to her toddler bed next to our bed.
I am soooo shocked at how big he is!! I expected another peanut kid but WOW!! And I love Gwen’s underpants and leg warmers
You’re doing a good job Momma! Keep it up!
