Day Two!

Today, I ventured out to the park! I called around and made sure that a friend or two would be there first and then bit the bullet … and it went much better than I could have anticipated! Thankfully, it appears that when you’ve got a newborn, other people really help out with the toddler :)

I’m falling more and more in love with Gil - all the while acknowledging that the newborn phase is not my favourite! Saying that out loud and being okay with it is allowing me to move past that guilt and move into a space of being with him more fully and more intentionally enjoying this time.

After all, he’s growing every day and will only be this small once. Tomorrow, he’ll be bigger than he was today. Gil is spacing out his nursing a titch - like every 30 - 45 minutes now instead of the entire time he’s awake - and has a predictable fussy time in the late afternoon. Unlike his sister, who at the age was going to bed around 11 or midnight after an hours-long fussy time, Gil normally nods off somewhere between 7 and 8, sleeping a few 2-3 hours stretches between feeds and then moving to hourly wakes in the wee hours - admittedly a difficult time for me.

Gwen’s been doing awesome. Not a whole lot of potty regression, no aggression towards Gil, and none towards me, either!

She seems to genuinely like Gil and is very interested in the fact that he has most of the same body parts that she does. Eyes! Hands! Feet! Ears!

I’m doing well - I feel great for it being only 2.5 weeks since Gil’s birth! I’m enjoying the slings that my friend Nadine and I made (she pretty much did all the work on the one I’m wearing in that photo!). If you’re interested, we used the sling pattern here and ordered the sling rings from here. Nadine assures me that anyone who sews would understand the pattern :) I think, after doing it with her, that I could probably figure it out again. It wasn’t terribly hard, anyways!

Looking great, Kim! What awesome pictures! Anderson and I would love to come for a visit next week if you’re up to it (and we’re not sick…which is a rarity this Winter for the Burgess household!)
