29 Weeks! Blood clot! Yay!

Sigh.

Over the weekend, I developped a reddened, sore lump on the back on my leg behind my knee. I called the thrombosis clinic that I went to a few weeks ago and they made me an appointment for the next day.

After a quick examination and a compression ultrasound, I was diagnosed with Superficial Thrombophlebitis, which is a clot in a superficial vein. No deep vein involvement, thankfully.

I was also enrolled in a study for diagnosing DVT in pregnant women, so I was scheduled for another ultrasound for this coming Tuesday and had some blood taken for a test to determine if you’ve got clots. Obviously, mine will likely be positive … umm … because I have a clot, but they’ll also be testing the blood at a later date to see if I have a higher tendency to clot than normal.

So for now, I’m trying to rest with my feet up as often as possible because sitting and standing and moving are all terribly painful. I also learned that the ER docs that told me to put heat on my clot last time are IDIOTS and that I should be applying cold packs. Last time I also had the advantage of being able to take anti-inflammatories … this time? They’re a no-no during pregnancy :(

I have my next midwife appointment on Friday and after this one, I’ll be going every two weeks. I’m hoping I can pre-schedule a whack of appointments so I can stop having them at crappy times.

Just to answer any questions, yes, I’m still nursing Gwen. She’s not nursing as frequently (for the most part) as she was a few months ago, and we’re down to one feeding overnight. Brad and I are currently attempting to cut the nurse-to-sleep feeding in the evenings because it has been weeks since she’s nursed to sleep - she always wants her daddy! So now I’m trying to nurse her downstairs a half hour or so before bedtime and offering her a snack directly afterward. Then, when snack is finished, we clean up and I head up with her to change her diaper, put on her pjs, and brush her teeth. Then Brad comes up to read books and put her to bed. It seems to be going well so far. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed at needing to nurse Gwen to sleep once Love Bug has arrived, so this is helping me feel a bit better. This way, Brad can take Love Bug while I do my bit and then I can take him/her back while Brad does his :)

its so weird how you’re such a clotter and mom’s such a bleeder. families are just so genetically diverse.

i really hope you get some relief kim. i know you said not to be worried, but it just doesn’t sound all that good…

I’m sorry you’re hurting. Praying for you! It’s great that Gwen will accept her daddy at night; that’s still an ongoing issue with Ellie.
