Gwen’s Knitted Hat
I finally knit Gwen something. It makes me feel terrible to say that I’ve knit things in the last two years and none of them have been for my own daughter! But alas, I really hadn’t found anything that was quite right to knit for my beautiful baby girl.
And then I found this pattern and fell in love with it. I cast on (using a ball of Mission Falls 1824 100% Merino I had lying around - colourway Crocus) immediately using the completely wrong measurements and got a hat that almost fit me. Sigh. The second time around I got this:
A beautiful hat that fit around … but VERY snug and not tall enough at all! This time I decided that darnit, I’d figure out someone to give it to instead of ripping it out again. It wasn’t the right shade of purple anyways.
So my mom took me over to Spun, my local yarn shop, and I bought two balls of the same wool - it is just s smooshy and soft! - this time in the colourway Stone. And we got this:
I love love LOVE this hat - and so does Gwen, who won’t really let me get a good picture of her wearing it …
Um, yeah. Terribly cute. I have gotten so many compliments on this hat! It’s an ingenious pattern and quite quick to knit up, too. If you don’t make it three times, that is!
