She Talks!
We have gone from a one-word vocabulary (mama) to a four-word vocabulary in two days. While I was at my parents, Gwen learned to say berries (bays), ball (bah), and eyes (ice).
So. Cute. Can’t. Take. It.

Wow. I feel like this pregnancy is just flying by! It probably helps that I’ve had maybe a grand total of an hour of nausea … and it has been wonderful, although not entirely comforting. While it was awful being nauseous 24/7 with Gwen, it was reassuring to know that nausea = pregnant. This time, I do have symptoms, they’re just less obvious ones - like highly emotional, incredibly exhausted, and laden with nasty, painful varicosities.
Yay, pregnancy!
Really though, I’m feeling more and more happy to be carrying this new life and looking more and more forward to meeting Love Bug. Read the rest of this entry »
I was on the Motherwear Breastfeeding Blog today with tears glistening in my eyes. Go check out the beautiful guest post there entitled “the last num num“. What a beautiful baby-led weaning story … sounds like such a gentle, peaceful process. I hope it can be like that for Gwen and I, too.
Hop on over to Christine’s blog - welcome to my brain - and check out her post from today: Magical Milk Pic-o-the-Week. I’m honoured to be featured on her site during World Breastfeeding Week, although I don’t think that was her intention
Brad took that picture a couple of months ago while we were putting Gwen to bed. So peaceful, so right. I love nursing my girl.
Yay, breastfeeding!!!!!
What are you doing for World Breastfeeding Week 2009? This post from Melodie at Breastfeeding Moms Unite! gives a tonne of suggestions of things you can do to support breastfeeding this week - check ‘em out and let me know if any of them gave you some ideas! Some things I’m doing to promote breastfeeding awareness include breastfeeding Gwen at home and in public, talking about breastfeeding to whoever will listen (:)), and blogging about breastfeeding. I’m also a La Leche League member and the best thing I’m doing for World Breastfeeding Week?
I’ve helped organize my La Leche League group’s Walk for Breastfeeding, which is taking place this Saturday, August 8 - and so far I’ve raised $365!!! These funds are sorely needed as it has been a long time since our group has had decent membership rates and has had the members to do some good fundraising. If you want to sponsor me, I have Paypal
And if you want to know more about the walk, drop me a comment.
I have spoken to enough moms about this subject to know that in mommy-land, I am playing with fire. Please, if you are going to leave a comment disagreeing with my position, I am happy to read it and have a discussion about the subject. Please keep in mind that just because we have chosen a different parenting style does NOT mean that I think you’re a bad parent. If any nasty/derogatory/flaming comments are posted, I will not respond, and I will delete them. Let’s be courteous everyone - thanks!
A couple of weeks ago I was at the park and met up with some friends. One asked me how Gwen was sleeping and I replied with a “Oh, the same … she still wakes up really frequently.” After a bit more chit-chat, she asked why we didn’t let her cry-it-out (CIO) so we could all get some sleep. I’m afraid my answer was woefully inadequate to convey why we are not advocates of the CIO method.
I thought about her question some more once I got home and came up with some better reasons than just “studies show it’s bad for babies’ brains” and “it just doesn’t feel right”. I thought I’d write them down here so I won’t be tempted to forget next time
