Forgive me …

For my lack of posting as of late. I’ve been working on Gwen’s scrapbook as I was hoping to have most of her first year done so I could display it at her birthday party which is … umm … in ONE WEEK. How did this happen?

Canadians who support breastfeeding!

Thought I’d repost this here for all my readers! Go sign! Go!

INFACT Canada and INFACT Quebec need your help.

We urge you to sign the Canadian Breastfeeding Protection Petition, which calls for action on improving breastfeeding support for mothers and babies across Canada. We will deliver the signatures directly to Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

Breastfeeding is the unequalled and normal way to feed babies. Although early, exclusive and sustained breastfeeding is recommended for mothers and children by the World Health Organization and Health Canada, many Canadian women terminate breastfeeding early because of lack of supports. Recently, the World Cancer Research Fund and the American Institute for Cancer Research have also added their voices to the need to strengthen societal supports to enable mothers and children to breastfeed as recommended. It is time for our government to understand that better breastfeeding practices benefit all of society, and that governmental support support for breastfeeding is essential. Action is necessary to work towards the implementation of a strategy based on:

  • the International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes;
  • World Health Assembly Resolutions on Infant and Young Child Nutrition;
  • the UN Global Strategy on Infant and Young Child Feeding as a comprehensive strategy;
  • strengthening maternity benefits and workplace supports.

You can make a difference for mothers and children. Sign the petition, share the petition and join us for a better world for all of us. Join INFACT Canada and INFACT Quebec and sign on to the petition at:

No-Meat Update

Well, it’s been a few weeks since I decided to drastically cut down how much meat my family consumes. It’s going very well! I’ve been making a lot of the same dishes, except I’ll substitute a can of chick peas or some beans for the meat. Brad and I haven’t noticed that we’re more hungry (thank goodness! I was quite worried about that!), so I think the change is sustainable. Gwen won’t eat meat anyways, so it’s no biggie for her.

Featured on TIPS site!

For anyone who isn’t following along in the comments on my Doidy Cup post, I thought I’d let you all know that my review has been added to the pressing cuttings page at TIPS Ltd.!

I’m thinking that’s pretty cool, seeing as how I’d really like to write reviews for a living. I didn’t get paid for this one, but maybe if I keep up the reviews and keep submitting them to the companies I will eventually?

Blogroll Update

I’ve had some requests to update my blogroll, and honestly, I’ve been wanting to do it for a while but I didn’t know how with my new wordpress.org blog. I finally figured it out! I’ve cleaned out some of the blogs I don’t read anymore (or who update very rarely) and added some of my new favourites. Check them out:

  • Adventures of Being a Mommy - my friend, Jen, who write about her life as a mom to her gorgeous son, Anderson
  • Breastfeeding Moms Unite - written by the mom of two little girls, this is a great blog about breastfeeding - she’s actually in the midst of writing a book about it!
  • Hathor the Cow Goddess - another breastfeeding blog - this one comprised of mostly breastfeeding, attachment parenting comics which are sometimes hilarious, sometimes serious and ALWAYS thought-provoking, written by Heather Cushman-Dowdee
  • Mama is … - written by the same author as the above blog - more comics, with a bit of a wider range of topics
  • Stand and Deliver - I’ve actually been reading Rixa’s blog for ages and I still love it - she’s got a tonne of information on childbirth in those pages!
  • Tammy Is Blessed - a blog about Tammy’s family … I’ve known Tammy online for a number of years
  • The Motherwear Breastfeeding Blog - is exactly that … a breastfeeding blog written by the folks at Motherwear

Happy reading!
