12 Month Appointment!

Today we went for Gwen’s 12 month appointment.

Little MIss sitting on her ‘car’.

My baby girl is still so tiny! She’s in the 90th percentile for height - 29 inches - but only the 3rd percentile for weight - 16lb 11oz. The doctor was not at all concerned, since he recognizes (thank goodness!) that we’re all built differently. She’s just long and lean like her daddy!

We had a fantastic appointment and a great talk with our doc about our desire to delay/space vaccinations. He whole-heartedly agreed and said that I was very wise to be considering it! He said that research is now showing that perhaps we’re giving the right vaccines but too many at once and too close together. He said he would be more than willing to go through a delayed/spaced vaccination schedule during our next appointment. Did I mention I love my doctor? Anyone in the Hamilton area looking for a doc who’s delayed/spaced vaccine friendly, leave me a comment and I’ll email you his contact info!

Little Miss pushing around my water bottle.

She’s growing by leaps and bounds developmentally! The other day, she learned where her head is (So. Cute. I have a video. I’ll upload it soon!) and she knows where to find her birthday balloons. She also signed ‘more’ that night (!!!) but doesn’t quite know what it means and only did it the once. She’s consistently signing ‘all done’ at the end of a meal, but doesn’t quite use it herself until we ask her if she’s all done.

Snuggling the pillow.

Gwen’s learned to snuggle. She’ll put her head down on a pillow, blanket, your leg, etc. and lay there for a few seconds before getting up and rushing off to the next thing. It’s terribly sweet.

The biggest thing over the past week is the frequency with which she’s letting go of objects and standing very sturdily! Yesterday, she took one step toward something and today she took two steps toward me!!! She also crouched and stood up twice at the park not holding onto anything. Crazy.

We figured out the other day that she’s understanding a HECK of a lot more than we ever thought she could. She can find books based on their title! I have a video of that, too, but Vimeo is taking FOREVER to convert it.

I can’t believe how fast my little girl is learning and growing. In no time, I’ll have a walking toddler on my hands and the craziness that is living with Gwen will jump another mile. She’s such a joy. A frustrating, independent, single-minded, busy, ornery joy!

I love the snuggle picture! Also, I meant to leave this on your video post: the transitions between clips are SO COOL! What software are you using?

    I love Gwen.

    such a fun little person!

I’m afraid we may be in the same percentile ranges as you guys are. She’s sooo tall but thin and I wonder..

I need to find a new doc when we get our new insurance so I can get her her 12 month check up.

Can you check with your doctor to find out if it’s possible to get the MMR split into 3 separate vaccinations? Jacob is 17 months now and still has not had his MMR. According to my dr you can’t get them split. I wouldn’t mind a 2nd opinion from a delayed-vacc type of dr!
    Thanks Kim!

Tammy, I think it might be different for each province, but as far as I know, you can’t split the MMR. I’m going to be waiting until after 4 to do it, since then it’s only the one shot, not a series of 3.
