Painting

We’ve been entertaining the notion of painting lately. It’s getting nice out - nice enough to leave the windows and doors open for the day to air out a room and let paint dry. It’s high time, people - my house is beautiful and old but bears the scars of decorators who had … ugly interesting tastes. Here’s what we’re planning!

Our living room currently looks like this:

We’re planning to paint it Thyme:

In the middle of the photo of our living room, you can see a recessed area beside where the fireplace once was. There’s a similar recess on the other side of the fireplace and we plan to paint both of these recesses Alligator Pear:

The vestibule (where you enter the house and where we hang our coats and put our shoes, and is between two doors) will also be alligator pear. You might try tilting your head to the left for this photo. I can’t figure out how to turn the picture on my new computer (Thanks, Brad! Now my readers won’t get a crick in their necks!):

Our dining room currently looks like this:

We’re planning to paint it Fortress Stone - the one in the middle:

Our kitchen currently looks like this (try tilting your head … to the right this time No kink for you!):

It will become this lovely colour, Casaba Melon:

And our multitude of colourful baseboards will meet the wrath of Swiss Coffee:

I. Can’t. Wait.

I swear our house was painted the same awful brown. And is that shiny silver WALLPAPER in your entryway? :-o

I love the colours you’ve chosen for the living room!

Laura - no, it’s actually sponge-painted … silvery hunter greeny awfulness!

love it!!! just the baseboards alone will make a huge difference in making the whole ground floor feel lighter.

so, say, if a certain sister was going to get a certain other sister a gift of a picture in a frame, what color frame would that other sister want to match her new colors?

Hmmmm … I guess that would depend on what room the sister was planning on putting said picture in! I’d say dark greens and darkly stained woods are a good bet - we’ve got the hardwood that always looks good with wood on the walls!
