If that silly crunchiness quiz had included this ….

I would have scored SO. MUCH. HIGHER.

Are you dying to know yet?

I make my own deodorant. Yep, you heard me right. And it works ten times better than any store-bought antiperspirant I have ever tried - and believe you me, I’ve tried a LOT of antiperspirants!!!

I found the recipe over at Christine’s blog, welcome to my brain. I read it and giggled. Three weeks later I went back and made it and have been using it ever since.

Recipe

Ingredients:

  1. 1 tbsp corn starch
  2. 1 tbsp olive oil
  3. 1 tbsp baking soda

Directions:

Mix. Rub into armpits. Enjoy your odour-free, relatively moist-free pits. Add a few drops of your favourite essential oil if you’d like it to have an odour. I’ve never done this, mostly because I couldn’t come up with an essential oil that I liked enough to smell like, plus, I kinda like smelling like nothing.

Honestly, people, this stuff works. And it works GOOD.

(p.s. Our boiler works again - YAY!)

Baby, it’s cold inside.

My marshmallow baby is currently wearing: a onesie, a pair of socks, a sleeper, and a matching sweatsuit.

Marshmallow Baby

Marshmallow Baby

Why?

Because it’s 14 degrees celcius (that’s 57 fahrenheit) in my house right now.

People, it’s really, really cold.

Thankfully, we can go over to the other side of the house (yay, community!), but we’re not so excited about the possibility of needing a new boiler. Our current one is literally as old as the hills and is asbestos-covered, so the asbestos removal would be around $5000, and a new boiler would be the same. So, if it’s the boiler, we’re looking at about $10 000.

Christmas Fun

WARNING: PHOTO HEAVY POST!!!

Well hello there, everyone! This is our first day at home alone since last Sunday! Phew!

So, like I said in my last post, Gwen and I went down to my parents house to spend some time with my two sisters, my nephew, and my parents. I had a great time hanging out with my sisters!! The last 4 years, I’ve been working around the Christmas holidays so I’ve generally only spent a day or two with them, but this year since I’m a stay-at-home-mom, I got to spend 4 and a bit days with them. So nice. Read the rest of this entry »

I’ll Be Home for Christmas

I’m heading to my parents’ house today with Gwen to spend Christmas with my parents, sisters, and nephew. Brad will be heading our way later in the week. Needless to say, I likely won’t be blogging until after Christmas is over, so I wish you and yours a wonderfully Merry Christmas!

Gwen’s Newest Trick

It’s been far too long since I’ve written a post that’s NOT about Gwen being sick. So, I thought it was time.

Gwen turned 6 months old last week - where has the time gone? My newborn isn’t a newborn anymore, and she’s not even an infant - she’s a baby. She sits and eats and babbles and rolls, and yeah. Sometimes it blows me away to think about how many things she’s learned.

She’s sleeping on her own all night every night these days, and has learned to take naps. For the past few weeks, she’s been sleeping 1 - 2 hours in the morning and a shorter nap in the afternoon. It’s wonderful and I’m learning to breathe again (speaking of which, she’s been sleeping for 2 hours now …). It’s not EVERY day, but it’s nearing that, and I’ve gotta say, I’m a much better mommy having a few hours to do my own thing! I’m learning to scrapbook digitally :)

Her new trick is the ability to take her hat off :) She’s getting so clever!

Isn’t she cute??

And the verdict is …

An ear infection!

Apparently in Europe they wait out ear infections more than we do here in North America. I’ve got antibiotics in the fridge waiting until she at least develops a fever.

And the doctor is unconvinced that Gwen is teething.

For those of you waiting …

For those of you waiting eagerly for an update on Gwen’s health, here it is! She slept pretty well last night until almost 9 this morning! (She seems to wake up about 12 hours after you put her down, regardless of the time she goes to bed). She woke up in good spirits and nursed well (relief for my engorged breasts!) and smiled and played most of the morning. She went down at 11 for a nap until around 1 pm. In her crib. It was a miracle! She didn’t have very good afternoon naps, since we were out an about, and she fell asleep nursing at around 6:20. It’s now about 7:15, so I’m assuming she’s done for the night … I just hope she doens’t wake up at 6:30 tomorrow morning!!!

All in all, she seems a bit better today - in better spirits, eating decently, not so whiny - and we think it’s mostly her teeth bothering her right now. I’m pretty sure it’s not strep, anyways! She’s chewing on everything in sight and biting HARD. She was also trying to massage her gums on me before a feeding earlier. Poor thing. We’re thinking they’re going to break through in the next couple of days!

As for me, my throat is a bit sore, I’m a bit congested, and I’m planning to go to bed EARLY tonight :)

To the doctor!

I took Gwen to the doctor this morning just to make sure all was well so I didn’t end up stuck in a walk-in clinic on the weekend (because that is my lot in life!).

She took a throat swab for strep and said she might have an ear infection.

My poor baby.
